I think that Starbucks is trying to develop a good reputation so that they can have a good working environmnet for employees and have satisfied customers who drink a lot of coffee. Basically, Starbucks is wise to increase its support for fair trade coffee because it will increase a daily profit and it will bring in more customers who can have any kind of coffee they want due to the companies wide variety of coffee.

I don't know about all this. I think Starbucks is just trying to shut up a human rights group.

The Fair Trade is not really affecting their wallets because they never offer the Fair Trade coffee as the "coffee of the day" and you have to specifically ask for it.

From a consumer stand point, it sounds like they are just trying to shut someone up who is calling them out on being greedy.

From a crisis management stand point, I think they did a really smart thing. They made the human rights groups happy while not letting it affect their sales.

Starbuck's did a very good job handling a media problem that could have become a crisis. They did not drastically change their advertising or what they sell, however they appeased the people that were having a problem and resolved the conflict without a great deal of detriment to their company.
